Spent Automotive Catalyst (Sweeps)
The material is made up from the sweeps dust and debris collected by a recycling facility from the mechanical processing, cutting, and grinding of used catalytic converters. These automotive catalysts consist of the cordierite ceramic honeycomb structure, the washcoat (gamma-Al2O3, or alumina), along with catalytic coatings containing Pt, Pd and Rh, which are the primary valuable metals. The sweeps also contain residual metals such as iron, tantalum, chromium, tungsten and copper, along with non-metallic contaminants like silica and organic residues.
