The NEW Savillex DST-4000 Acid Purification System is the ultimate high capacity unit for routine laboratory production of ultra-pure acids or water and comes complete with everything required to distill ultra-pure acid.
The DST-4000 consists of a self-contained PFA reservoir/condenser vessel with all wetted parts made of PFA. The lower reservoir is surrounded by an electric heating mantle. Up to 4000ml of trace metal grade acid is added to the vessel via the front fill tube which fills the reservoir from the bottom. The acid level in the reservoir is conveniently displayed by the liquid level gauge on the fill tube. Power is supplied to the heating mantle by the temperature controller. Distillation temperature is user set via the controller and a digital display on the controller shows the temperature setting.
The acid in the reservoir is gently heated, and high purity acid vapour is generated. The acid vapour condenses on the walls of the upper part of the vessel (condenser) and is collected in a channel which drains into two 2,000ml Purillex ™ PFA collection bottles. The vent assembly and the vents in the bottle transfer closures allow displaced air out of the system during the distillation process to prevent pressurisation. All vents are fitted with PTFE membranes, which prevent airborne contamination from entering the system. The formed vent tube maintains even pressure throughout the system as it is filled and drained.
The production rate of high purity acid is dependent on the temperature setting used on the controller: A temperature setting of 90˚C (194˚F) will produce acid at approximately 85ml/hr. The temperature setting only affects the production rate and not the purity or quality of the acid. The maximum acid temperature setting that can be programmed into the controller is 90˚C (194˚F) which is well below the boiling point of the acid so no contaminants are carried over to the distillate. Distillation temperature is precisely maintained by PID control. The low maximum temperature setting and integrated thermal fuse in the heating element also provides a high degree of safety during the distillation process.
In addition, the DST-4000 is equipped with a liquid level sensor that will automatically shut off power to the heater when the liquid level in the reservoir drops below 500ml. The automatic shut-off feature is useful when operating the DST-4000 unattended or for an extended period of time, since automatic shut-off ensures the acid is not distilled to dryness. Any residual acid remaining after distillation (typically less than 500ml) is drained to waste. The distillation process can be stopped at any time if high purity acid is needed urgently.
The Savillex DST-4000 is extremely simple to install and requires no cooling water supply. With a footprint of only 30 cm x 50 cm, and a height of only 55 cm, the DST-4000 will fit into most fume hoods. The controller is connected via a 3 meter cord and is designed to be placed outside the fume hood.
